You get the idea. Same old same old. My personal opinion is all of this talk is nothing more than B.S. All of it is designed to get the promoter of the investments richer and you poorer. Don't you think that if all this crap were working that you would be a lot better off than you are today? Then you have your doom-n-gloomers, these guys prey on your fears only to sell you their great newsletter or investments.

The fact is that most Americans go through life with blinders on when it comes to personal investing. Joe Smith contributes to his qualified retirement plan (404(k)) diligently every single month. His employer matches his contribution. It bothers me just a bit that a recent poll showed that 67% of Individual Retirement Arrangement (IRA's) owners were not aware of all the rules and regulations associated with these plans. Most people open an IRA, put money in it, invest the money in mutual funds and sit back and wait. Good luck! You will be waiting a long time. A poll recently done by J.P. Morgan concluded that the Average American actually thinks they can retire comfortably on $499,999. My God man, are you out of your mind! Many new statistics are showing that the average American will spend about $280,000 of their own money on health care alone during their retirement...and that's in today's dollars. We are living longer folks, and you had better be prepared.

We all the changes into today's financial world, all the new rules and regulations being slapped on us daily, with the investment environment changing so rapidly it was apparent to me that I needed to keep my students as up to date as possible. You need to know all the advanced strategies and techniques the rich use to build tremendous wealth. You need to be keep abreast on all the tax laws and opportunities you have to shield your wealth. You also need to know about unique alternative investment opportunities available to you.

With the rapidly changing landscape in America's financial picture it is imperative that you are kept up to date. Have you ever considered what would happen if you outlived your money? Consider that once a male reaches the age of 65 his new life expectancy is between 85-87 years old (depending on which statistics you use). If you plan on retiring at age 65 the money you put away in your IRA, 401(k) and other savings vehicle may be all you can depend on to get you through another 22 years (that's just a decade or so less than all the years you worked).

Are you counting on Social Security benefits to be there. I bet they will be around in some form or other but to what extent? The biggest social security check paid out today is barely over $2,000, with all the baby boomers retiring and a large shortfall of funds it is probably a good bet that massive reconstruction of Social Security benefits are in the works.

Pensions are a whole other animal. There is a whopping 71% plunge in pensions offered today from 1985 and to top it off these remaining pensions are reducing benefits daily...because they can. Nope, you need to rely on yourself to build your nest egg. Problem is that the traditional means and advice on saving and investing just does not work!

Couple this with inflation and you are in for a disastrous retirement. If you believe the governments statistics on the inflation rate then you have been sold a bill of goods. Looking back to the way inflation was calculated prior to 1980 and our current inflation rate would be in double digits. If this is true then you simply cannot accept returns of anything less than 12% yet most of Middle America is content, and darn right giddy, if they can average 8% returns.

Just how much money will you need in retirement? Going by the old standards laid out by most so-called financial "gurus" and planners they say you only need between 65% and 85% of your pre-retirement income to maintain your same standard of living. Bad advice, you are likely to spend more in your retirement years than during your working years for a few reasons...

• No more tax deductions
• Health expenses rise with age
• We are living longer
• When you are working you make money and don't have time to spend money
• Grandchildren
• And the big one of them all, what are you going to do with the new found 10 hours a day that you did not have during your working years...smoke cigarettes and watch Captain Kangaroo reruns?
• Just to name a few

You better start playing to win and stop playing not to lose. Building wealth is a game and you had better score more points than your opponent (financial planners, wall street, banks, employer, government, etc.).
